CENTENNIAL (CHAVNER)
Rogue River
1876 - 1911
1876: A covered wagon bridge was constructed.
December 21, 1911: "The Centennial bridge at Gold Hill over Rogue river is destroyed by dynamite. It was in use 35 years." (Medford Mail Tribune)
February 28, 1928: "News from Gold Hill is to the effect that the steel bridge spanning the Rogue River at Gold Hill on the Pacific highway, which has been supplanted by the massive reinforced concrete bridge erected last season spanning the stream, is being dismantled by a county road crew and will be utilized on some minor stream in the county. The steel bridge being removed was constructed not many years ago, supplanting the old wooden structure which was built in 1876 and known as the 'Centennial' bridge in those days. It was erected by the late Thomas Chavener and his estate as a toll bridge until Jackson county purchased it about 1890 and made it a free bridge." (Medford Mail Tribune)
