March 8, 1907: "The county is busy making improvements where damage was done by the recent high water. Commissioner Butler has completed work on the Mad creek bridge." (Albany Democrat)
February 17, 1916: "T. J. Butler and W. M. Lamb went to Gates this morning to look after bridges in the eastern part of the county. Mr. Butler will look after the Mad Creek bridge, under which a pier has been washed loose and left the structure in a precarious condition. Mr. Lamb will do some repair work." (Albany Daily Democrat)
September 18, 1931: "Mad creek bridge, east of Gates on the Linn county side, was opened to traffic early this week. The old covered bridge was completely torn out and an entirely new bridge with concrete piers was put in. These new bridges will be greatly appreciated as the old ones cut off the view of the roads to quite an extent." (Daily Capital Journal)
