(DOLE)
South Umpqua River
March 6, 1925: "The county court today completed its business for the term and formally adjourned before going to Dole to look at the proposed site of a bridge which will be constructed across the river to connect with the highway at that point. For several years a bridge across the river, connecting with the state highway at Dillard has been proposed, for at present there are a number of families in the district who must either use the old Roberts mountain road, or make a roundabout trip by way of Myrtle Creek to reach town. The district has voted a special tax of 10 mills for the purpose of building the bridge, and the county will give the district some assistance. A covered bridge of a design similar to the new Rice Creek bridge will probably be constructed, the estimated cost being $10,000 or $12,000." (The News-Review)
