September 21, 1909: "George Kinsey and Mr. Marsh went to Saginaw to put a new roof on the county bridge at that place, with the help of some men whom they will secure there." (Morning Register)
November 20, 1909: "George Kinsey came down from his work on the county bridge at Saginaw yesterday." (Morning Register)
November 11, 1914: "The big covered bridge across the Willamete at Saginaw is temporarily out of repair. The structure was put in about thirty years ago and the piers are constructed of a heavy wooden crib filled with rocks. The timbers about the pier on the west end of the bridge have rotted away, allowing the rock to run out and leaving that end of the bridge without support. No damage has as yet resulted to the main part of the bridge but it will be rather difficult to force it back into position.
The county court was notified of the accident and Judge Thompson came up yesterday afternoon to see what can be done towards immediate repairs.
A sudden freshet would probably take the bridge out completely." (Cottage Grove Sentinel)
November 11, 1914: "The big river bridge at Saginaw is on the verge of collapse. The main span of the bridge rests on a stone pier on the west bank of the river. This stone pier was constructed by first building up a pier of heavy timbers or logs bolted together and filled with stone. Recently these timbers or logs holding the stone became decayed and on Monday night gave way allowing the stone to drop out of place which caused the west end of the bridge to settle down and threaten its collapse, whether the bridge can be raised at the west end and a new pier constructed under it is a question. The county court is inspecting the damage and will soon decide on the best way to put the bridge in shape for travel again. The bridge was built about 25 years ago but has been completely overhauled since that time." (Cottage Grove Leader)
December 23, 1914: "County Commissioner Hawley was up from Eugene the latter part of last week looking after repairs to the Coast Fork bridge at Saginaw." (Cottage Grove Sentinel)
December 30, 1914: "County Commissioner, Geo. Hawley, who spent Christmas at his home in this city, informed the Leader that the county bridge at Saginaw, which was closed recently on account of the pier on the west bank giving away, has been reconstructed and late last week was again opened to travel, new piers having been constructed. The span is 200 feet long." (Cottage Grove Leader)
October 23, 1942: "Permission has been received by the Lane county court from Washington, D.C., to buy needed lumber for the new bridge over the Coast Fork at Saginaw but it is too late now to commence construction as there is always danger of high water in the stream from this time on. A freshet would take out the false work very quickly. Work will be started next spring." (The Register-Guard)
