Molalla River

April 28, 1911: "It is hoped that the notices which are posted asking for sealed bids for the Josslyn--sometimes called the Knight--bridge will be recalled or that action on the bids received will receive unfavorable consideration, as the many who are dependent on this, the oldest bridge across the Molalla river leading into Canby, will of necessity have to come to this place by way of Barlow, which to many would mean traveling more than twice the distance that they now have to travel. We understand from reliable sources that this bridge was repaired two years ago and that now it is in fair condition, except the piers, which could easily be repaired by driving piling. The timber in the bridge is of first class cedar and is as sound as can be. To dispose of the bridge is to close a public highway that has been in use for about forty years and it would seem to mark a backward step instead of a progressive one. Remonstrances are now being circulated asking the Court to rescind its action." (Morning Enterprise)
May 5, 1911: "At the meeting of the Canby Chamber of Commerce last night the chief topic discussed was the matter of the condemnation of the old Josslyn bridge over the Molalla River, between this city and Barlow, two miles distant.
At the last held meeting of the County Court, at Oregon City, that body declared the bridge unsafe and instructed the supervisor of that road district either to sell the structure or to demolish it May 1 with dynamite. A large delegation of the residents of the west side of the river appeared before the chamber and enlisted its assistance in the matter with the result that a committee with Mrs. Bryant, an engineer, went to the bridge today and after making investigation asserted that the same may be placed in first-class condition and made safe.
This committee reported at noon today and the report was placed in the hands of C.N. Wait and C.F. Romig, who have gone to Oregon City to present it to the County Judge." (Morning Oregonian)
May 5, 1911: "Judge C.N. Wait, City Recorder C.F. Romig and Capt. Almsby, a committee from the Commercial organization of Canby, were sent to interview Judge Beatie for the purpose of getting him to postpone action of disposing of the Josslyn bridge across the Molalla River, leading to Canby, as advertised.
The result of the interview was that the Judge promised to do as requested and give those protesting the sale of the bridge an opportunity to present their reasons next Friday at the session of Court why this bridge should not be abandoned." (Oregon City Enterprise)
May 19, 1911: "Last Saturday evening Judge Beatie and County Commissioners Matoon and Clair arrived on the 5:30 P.M. train to inspect the Josslyn bridge across the Molalla, which has been closed for some time." (Oregon City Enterprise)
May 26, 1911: "The required amount of money for repairing the old Josslyn bridge has been raised. It was raised by subscription of the business men of Canby." (Oregon City Enterprise)
May 26, 1911: "The county court is to have the old Josslyn bridge near Canby repaired." (Oregon City Courier)
July 13, 1917: "William Dutcher, of Oregon City, and a force of men are repairing the Knight bridge north of Canby." (Oregon City Enterprise)
