August 29, 1917: "The county court is about ready to advertise for bids on the construction of a covered bridge across the upper Siuslaw river five miles below Lorane. The bridge will have a 60-foot span and will replace an old structure that will be torn down." (Morning Register)
August 30, 1917: "Sealed bids will be received by the County Court of Lane County, at Eugene, Oregon, September 20, 1917, at the hour of 2 p.m., for the construction of a covered wooden bridge over the Siuslaw river on County Road No. 398, in Sec. 20, Tp. 20 S.. R. 5 W., W.M., the span to be 60 feet long: according to the plans an d specifications now on file in the office of the County Clerk, Eugene, Oregon." (Morning Register)
September 21, 1917: "L.N. Roney, of this city, will be awarded the contract by the county for the erection of a county bridge over the upper Siuslaw below Loraine. This is known as the O'Brien bridge. It will be of frame construction and covered. The bids opened by the county court yesterday were as follows:

All the bidders are residents of Eugene and each has built bridges for the county before." (Morning Register)
