November 13, 1919: "The south approach to the Barker bridge, over the Muddy, is in a bad condition due to the rains and the heavy traffic." (Albany Democrat-Herald)
October 30, 1925: "The Muddy creek bridge at the Barker crossing is being repaired. New decking and piling are being put in. R.E. Campbell and Isaac Barber are getting the timber out for the piling." (Albany Democrat-Herald)
March 4, 1931: "Construction work on the new bridge crossing Muddy at Barker's corner on the Corvallis-Peoria road will begin in the near future, it is reported. Lumber is on the ground and a crew of local men are at work grubbing and clearing brush on the new bridge site. The old covered bridge which satisfactorily served traffic in the horse and buggy days has been proven a menace to the safety and convenience of the high powered mode of transportation. This is the fifth crossing on Muddy in this vicinity, where covered bridges have been replaced with modern crossings in the last two years. Blind corners and sharp curves are eliminated by the recent survey." (Corvallis Gazette-Times)
