1893 - ____
April 14, 1893: "The contract for building the Sweet Home bridge was let by the county court to Ruettner & Tillotson of this city, for $1420 and 90 cents a foot for the approaches. The total length with the approaches will be 242 feet. Ruettner & Tillotson are not only a big firm; but they are reliable men and first class workmen, who will do a good job for the county." (Albany Democrat)
March 8, 1907: "The county is busy making improvements where damage was done by the recent high water. The Sweet Home bridge has been fixed by A. J. McClure." (Albany Daily Democrat)
January 11, 1923: "Flood again threatened the Santiam river bridge at this place last week. Owing to early snow fall, the recent warm rains that set in some time ago and have kept up for nearly two weeks, made the snow come down tremendously, and Saturday the rain fell in torrents, the river raised continually the whole day, and had it not been for the uprooted trees passing under the bridge lengthwise, great damage would have been done.
About six o'clock until eleven the rain ceased and was followed by heavy wind, It was thought during the night the Sweet Home bridge would go out, but the water began falling as soon as the rain stopped, and though it fell all day Sunday, the river gradually went down." (Albany Evening Herald)
March 15, 1923: "A crew of men is at work repairing the Sweet Home bridge. A concrete foundation is being made for the pier at the north end of the bridge." (Albany Daily Democrat)
March 23, 1927: "Construction of a cable bridge over the Santiam river at Sweet Home to replace the wooden structure in service for many years will commence in the near future, according to announcement made today by R.M. Payne, county judge.
The old bridge has been declared unsafe for traffic. The new structure will be about 200 feet long and will be of the same type as the Waterloo bridge.
County Commissioners Joe Hume and R.A. Renninger went to Portland to negotiate the purchase of cable for the bridge." (Albany Democrat-Herald)
