November 2, 1916: "The new Fir Villa bridge across the Rickreall two miles east of Dallas has been completed by the county and was thrown open to traffic last week. The approaches to the bridge have also been rebuilt and are in good shape. The bridge is on a connecting road between the Salem-Dallas state highway and the Monmouth-Dallas road. ---Dallas Observer." September 16, 1946: "The Fir Villa bridge across the LaCreole, located on the road which runs between the Salem-Dalles highway at Fir Villa and the Orr's Corner road east of the Dallas hospital, will be closed Monday for about three weeks while a new bridge is being constructed by the county bridge crew." February 11, 1949: "The wooden Fir Villa bridge on the cut-off between Salem highway and Miller avenue collapsed about 4 p.m. It had been closed to traffic since mid-morning when a washout occurred at the north approach. Workmen had been filling the breech before one corner of the structure gave way." (Statesman Journal)
February 11, 1949: "Fir Villa --- Bridge approach washed away and route closed until repairs can be made." (Daily Capital Journal)
February 17, 1949: "The Fir Villa bridge, which dropped one end, is expected to go out at any time. The Fir Villa bridge is threatened by a log jam and is not expected to hold." (Daily Capital Journal)
March 10, 1949: "The Fir Villa bridge, a casualty of February's one-day flood, was re-opened to traffic Wednesday. The structure, which spans Rickreall creek near Miller avenue, had partially collapsed when high water swept away some of foundation.
The bridge is located on a short stretch of road which is widely used as a short cut to Salem highway by persons living in southeast Dallas." (Statesman Journal)
