August 3, 1900: "Office of the County Clerk of Linn County, Oregon, July 12, 1900.
Notice is hereby given that pursuant to an order of the County Court of the State of Oregon, for Linn county, made at the July term, 1900, thereof, sealed bids will be received by me until August 9, 1900, at 1 p.m. for the construction of a Howe Truss covered bridge across the South Santiam River near the mouth of McDowell Creek.
Contractors are invited to furnish plans and specifications and bids thereon and also to bid on the plans and specifications prepared by F.J. Miller now on file in my office. Cash or a certified check to the amount of $250 must be deposited with the clerk with each bid. The court reserves the right to reject any and all bids.
The successful bidder will be required to give a bond in the sum bidden for the faithful performance of his contract. W.F. Hammer, Clerk." (Albany Democrat-Herald)

January 11, 1923: "The bridge at the mouth of McDowell creek some ten miles up the Santiam was washed out and drifted against the bridge at Waterloo which, also gave way to the torrents drifting down the river and lodged in part against the railroad bridge at the Lebanon crossing." April 12, 1939: "There was quite an automobile accident Sunday at Bates park. As two cars tried to pass they collided and damaged both cars to such an extent that the wrecker had to tow both to town. No one was seriously injured." (Albany Democrat-Herald)
