July 7, 1877: "A bridge was authorized built across the McKenzie at Spores' ferry, the county assuming half the expense, provided the whole cost was not more than $9,000." (The Eugene City Guard)
July 20, 1877: "A bridge is to be built across the Willamette at Spores' ferry, Lane county, to cost $9000. One half is to be paod by the county, and one half by subscription. The bridge will be 400 feet long." (Willamette Farmer)
November 10, 1877: "We learn that Mr. J. E. Holt and others, having the matter in hand, have succeeded in getting the requisite amount of subscribed to insure the building of the bridge across the McKenzie at Spores' ferry. This bridge is very much needed, and will be a very great convenience to the traveling public." (The Eugene City Guard)
December 15, 1877: "The contract for building the bridge across the McKenzie at Spores' Ferry will be let to the lowest resposible bidder on the 31st inst. Plans and specifications can be seen at the Clerk's office. T.J. Vaughan has been appointed Superintendent and the bridge is to be completed by the 1st day of September, 1878." January 12, 1878: "The contract for building a bridge across the McKenzie river at Spores' ferry has been let to A. S. Miller & Son for the sum $9,000. This is the fourth bridge they have built in this county, and the substantial character of the three bridges already completed is a sufficient guarantee that they will honestly fulfill their present contract."
