TURNER'S CROSSING
Calapooia River
August 8, 1879: "Last Tuesday the County Court of Linn awarded the contract to Mr. G. W. Philbrick for the construction of a fine Howe Truss covered bridge at Turner's crossing on the Calapooia, six miles south of Albany. The main span of the bridge is to be 75 feet, with 25 feet approaches at each end. It is to be completed by the 1st of next October, and is to cost $889. Mr. Philbrick is an old and prominent contractor and bridge builder and his well earned reputation is a sufficient guaranty that the work will come fully up to the plans and specifications. This proposed bridge will be on the site of the old ricketty one which fell and killed a lady a few years ago, and is an enterprise which will be of great value and convenience to the large settlement of the county which it will accommodate."
