September 13, 1895: "The Marion county commissioners' court met the Clackamas court at the counties' line Friday and discussed the matter of constructing a joint bridge across Butte creek opposite Ross' place, four miles from Mt. Angel. Before the conference ended it was decided to place a 120-foot span structure at that point for the accommodation of the traveling public. The Clackamas court was authorized to have the plans prepared and advertise for the bids.--Statesman" (Oregon Courier)
August 13, 1901: "Sealed proposals, addressed to the County Surveyor of Marion County, Oregon, and marked 'Bid for Bridge near Woodburn.' will be received until 1 o'clock p.m. August 24, 1901.
Bids will also be received at the same time and place for repairing the Ross bridge across Butte creek on the Mt. Angel and Marquam road. Bids to be marked 'Bids for Repairs on Ross Bridge." (Statesman Journal)
August 24, 1901: "Mr. McCoy's bids were both accepted, but in the Ross bridge his two bids were taken under advisement. This last named work is to be put in jointly by Marion and Clackamas counties and the bid will be subject to the action of the latter." (Daily Capital Journal)
November 20, 1901: "County Road Master W.J. Culver filed his report on the construction of the Ross bridge across Butte creek at Scotts Mills, which was built jointly by Marion and Clackamas counties.
The bridge was contracted for and constructed by L.W. McCoy, and Marion county's share of the cost amounts to $160. The report was adopted." (Statesman Journal)
May 21, 1929: "One of eight bridges across Butte creek and Pudding River which Marion county owns jointly with Clackamas county, will be roofed this week, Peter Schmidt will build a new roof on the Ross bridge." (Daily Capital Journal)
October 23, 1931: "Fisher and his crew will now go over to the Ross bridge southeast of Monitor and do considerable work to get it back in shape, since the approaches and some of the cords of the structure are rotted." (Statesman Journal)
April 18, 1941: "Another of the mid-Willamette valley's old covered bridges is about to feel the wrecking bar.
The Marion county court and the Clackamas county engineer, meeting Thursday afternoon at the 34-year-old Ross bridge crossing Butte creek at the Marion-Clackamas line three miles east of Mt. Angel on the Marquam road, agreed the structure should be replaced soon.
'We'll replace it in the near future,' N.C. Hubbs, Marion county engineer, reported. 'We put in false bents last week to bolster it up until the bridge is built." (Statesman Journal)
June 10, 1941: "Work on the earth fill on the Marion county side of the new Ross bridge site was started Monday. The 120-foot wooden span is to be constructed by Marion county this summer." (Statesman Journal)
August 19, 1941: "Work on the Ross bridge over Butte creek east of Mt. Angel is expected to be finished tomorrow as far as the bridge proper is concerned but there will be a little additional work to be done on the fills before the bridge will be opened." (Daily Capital Journal)
