1884 - ____
June 13, 1884: "A petition was presented to the county court in December, 1882, to which over 200 names were appended, requesting the court 'to reconsider the necessity of erecting a bridge at the old crossing on the Tualitan river known as the Joseph Field's bridge.' The petition further states: 'By building a bridge at or near the said old site, your petitioners will, as well as the public generally, receive a boon for which they will ever pray, and your petitioners would further represent that there is a good road already made by the way of said crossing and there would have to be a new road built if the bridge was placed at the mouth of the [Tualatin] river.' In accordance with the request of the petition presented to the court, and on account of the substantial reasons there given, the bridge over the Tualitan is to be located at the Joe Fields place. It is calculated that it would cost $5000 to open the road if the bridge was built at the mouth of the Tualitan." (Oregon City Courier)
