August 5, 1881: "Court appointed John Richardson, superintendent, to receive bids etc., in matter of Richardson Bridge on Crabtree Creek." (The State Rights Democrat)
January 9, 1885: "What is known as the Richardson bridge across Crabtree creek, is gone; cause, too much snow, which mashed in the roof and broke the stringers." (Willamette Farmer)
January 16, 1885: "As far as learned the damage done to the County by the late storms may be summarized as follows: Richardson bridge flat." (The State Rights Democrat)
April 24, 1885: "Notice is hereby given that bids will be received by the County Court of Linn county, Oregon, at the May term, 1885, to rebuild the bridge across Crabtree Creek know as the 'Richardson Bridge' to be at the same level and the same length as the old bridge, (90 foot span) to be covered, not painted. Privilege will be given the contractor of using the approaches and such irons as are in servicable condition in the old bridge.
Each bidder to furnish his own plans and specifications with bid, the Court reserving the right to reject any and all bids. Bids to be filed with Clerk on or before Wednesday, May 6th, 1885, at 1 p.m. Done by order of the Court. D. Andrews, Clerk." (The State Rights Democrat)
February 7, 1890: "The Richardson bridge across Crabtree creek and the Jordan bridge across Thomas creek were washed out by the recent floods." (Albany Daily Democrat)
April 3, 1908: "Judge Stewart and Commissioner Butler came over to the Richardson bridge, across Crabtree creek. It was their conclusion that a break water and the scooping out of the channel was necessary to cause the creek to continue flowing under the bridge," (Albany Democrat)
December 21, 1915: "The county court is considering repairs for Richardson bridge, over Crabtree creek, which is said to be in poor condition at present. A few repairs will make it safe for the winter, it is said." (Albany Daily Democrat)
September 9, 1920: "County Commissioner T.J. Butler, with a force of 12 men, today commenced work on the new Richardson bridge across Crabtree creek on the old Territorial Road about a mile from its point of intersection with the Albany-Laurelwood road.
The bridge is of wooden construction with a 140 foot span and an 80-foot approach." (Albany Evening Herald)
September 15, 1920: "Linn county is now facing for the first time this year serious handicap in road building because of the cement famine, which today halted construction on a bridge between Sanderson's Bridge and Scio, and upon the Richardson bridge near Crabtree according to word received today by county officials." (Albany Daily Democrat)
October 15, 1920: "County Commissioner Thomas J. Butler went to Oswego yesterday on a quest for cement with which to continue construction work at the Richardson bridge on the Albany-Scio road. The Oswego Cement company sold the commissioner one carload, enough to prevent a shutdown of work on the structure. The cement will be shipped next week.
With no untoward events the bridge should be completed within three or four weeks. Adverse weather conditions have been a great handicap to the work and a further shortage of materials would prove disastrous." (Albany Evening Herald)
October 19, 1920: "The county had purchased a car load of cement through a local dealer, but when the car arrived the county was allowed only 300 of the 400 sacks that it contained. The remaining contents of the car represents just the amount necessary to complete the pier, according to the county officials.
The bases of the pier at Richardson's bridge are being placed at a depth sufficient to guarantee that they will never be washed out, and upon a solid strata of soil that is composed of coarse gravel packed in clay, Mr. Butler says." (Albany Democrat)
December 10, 1921: "A tour of a portion of the area damaged by the high water was made yesterday by Judge W.R. Bilyeu, Commissioners Dave Pierce and Tom Butler, for the purpose of learning to what extent improvements would have to be made by the county. Considerable damage to roads and bridges was found, Judge Bilyeu reports.
An inspection of the Richardson bridge was then made. It was found that the water had washed in behind the concrete pier at the south approach to the bridge, endangering the structure." (Albany Evening Herald)
June 28, 1946: "Because all bids on the Bohemian hall bridge crossing Crabtree creek near Scio were too high they were rejected mutually by the Linn county court and state highway commission before which the bids were opened yesterday, members of the Linn county court reported today.
Only two bids were received, one from Keys Brothers, a new firm, for more than $36,000 and the other from Lindstrom Brothers, exceeding $38,000.
The Highway commission acted as recipient of the bids for the county court at the Linn court's request. The proposed bridge would replace the present bridge, which has become antiquated, members of the court said today. Bids had been asked on construction of a 105-foot span.
The court reached no decision today as to what may be done in regard to the matter.
Attending the session were Judge E.G. Arnold, Commissioners H.A. Renninger and Claude Smith and County Engineer Walter Larsen." (Albany Democrat-Herald)
July 15, 1947: "Work on the Bohemian hall bridge crossing Crabtree creek on the Richardson's Gap road has been delayed through lack of materials, Elmer Holst, Linn county bridge foreman, said today.
Holst explained that certain structural timber necessary for erection of the span cannot be delivered until July 25, according to recent information received from the producing company.
Meanwhile traffic on this road is suspended inasmuch as the old bridge, which had become inadequate, was removed to permit start of construction on the new span." (Albany Democrat-Herald)
July 25, 1947: "Arrival of the truss span at the scene of construction will make possible early completion of the Bohemian hall bridge crossing Crabtree creek on a Linn county road, members of the county court said today.
The road has been closed during construction of the new bridge, which was held up by delays in arrival of materials." (Albany Democrat-Herald)
