July 20, 1899: "Notice is hereby given that sealed plans, specifications and strain diagrams and bids for furnishing material for and constructing a ninety foot span bridge across the Long Tom River at what is known as the 'Gibson Bridge,' said bridge to be covered, and to rest on oak piling, no approaches. All bids to be in by 10 o'clock a m July 22nd, 1899 and to be accompanied with a cash deposit of ten per cent of amount of bid, the Court reserving the right to reject any and all bids.

September 26, 1925: "A county crew has also just finished the new bridge across the Long Tom, a short distance east of Franklin and the fill leading to it has been completed. Six hundred feet of new road has been built to straighten the road at that place. The old covered bridge had become decayed and was considered unsafe for travel." (Morning Register)
