July 2, 1919: "E.C. Bushnell of Salem has received the contract for the construction of a new bridge, to be known as the Wallace bridge, across the Yamhill river in the vicinity of Willamina and has begun work on the structure which he expects to have completed in a couple months. Mr. Bushnell presented the lowest bid, the contract price being something like $3,733." (Statesman Journal)
1919-20: "One, a 114 foot covered Howe truss span over the North Yamhill River, is near Willamina and is known locally as the Wallace bridge. This was built by E.C. Bushnell during the summer of 1919 at a cost of $3,733.50." (Fourth Biennial Report of the Oregon State Highway Commission)
December 6, 1934: "Letting of the contract for a new bridge across the Yamhill river at the junction of the Tillamook and Dallas roads is to be handled today at the state highway meeting in Portland. The bridge, down the river from the wood-covered Wallace bridge, will replace that structure." (Statesman Journal)
June 9, 1935: "The new Wallace bridge across the Yamhill river west of Willamina has been completed and Earl Philpot, contractor, has moved his equipment and crew south and east of Oregon City to work on a bridge he is to construct there. The new Wallace bridge, located several hundred yards below the site of the present covered bridge across the river, will be joined with the new grade of the Wallace shortcut road to the Lincoln and Tillamook county bridges. It will not be in use until late this summer or early this fall, according to highway officials." (Statesman Journal)
August 6, 1935: "The new concrete bridge near the west side highway replacing the old covered wooden bridge has been thrown open to traffic, report weekend travelers to the coast via the Wallace Bridge cut-off from Dallas. The Wallace road is in excellent shape for most of the distance, though the west side highway end, a new grade cutting out many old curves, is not yet oiled." (Statesman Journal)
