BROCKWAY
Lookingglass Creek
1899 - 1919 ; 1919 - ____
November 23, 1899: "Claims allowed and warrants ordered drawn on" for the construction of the Brockway bridge. (The Plaindealer)
May 8, 1916: "Upon returning last night from a professional call Dr. Hoover found a small blaze at the large covered bridge spanning the stream at Brockway. The fire was confined to a small space, but was spreading rapidly and had eaten its way through the flooring and into one of the large stringers of the bridge. He summoned help from a nearby farm and with the aid of buckets and water from the stream the flames were extinguished.
The bridge is one of the largest in that section and had the fire been discovered a few minutes later it would doubtless have been a total loss. Workmen were today employed in its repair and it will be replaced in good condition within a short time. The origin of the fire was not ascertained." (The News-Review)

April 3, 1919: "Bids for the erection of the Brockway bridge were opened by the County Court this afternoon and it was found that Britt S. Nichols and Fred Bowen of this city had submitted the lowest estimate for the work, which is to commence soon. The Portland Bridge Company was the only other concern that submitted a bid. The local firm's bid was $5519, while that of the Portland Bridge Company was $6774. The new structure, the contract for which will be let in the near future, is to be erected about 100 feet above the present bridge site and will be modern in every particular. It is to be of wood and will be covered." (Roseburg Review)
