November 13, 1880: "Mr. Roney assures us that the completion of the bridges slated does not end the work of the firm which he represents in this county. He says that he has been advised that two more large bridges will be constructed under order of the county board next year---one across Cow Creek at a point near Mr. Riddle's place." May 21, 1881: "The Hon. County Court of Douglas county have contracted with Miller & Son of Portland for a bridge across Cow creek, five miles west of this place. (Canyonville) The bridge is to be a Smith truss and will cost $2,100. It is not on the stage road, but will accommodate a large farming community." (Oregon Sentinel)
June 4, 1881: "Mr. A Roney has gone to assist in building a bridge across Cow Creek in Douglas county." (The Eugene City Guard)
February 8, 1890: "Cow creek bridge above Riddles is in very bad condition." (The Eugene City Guard) In a story describing the devastating loss of bridges in the flooding of that season.
September 22, 1894: "Mr. J.I. Jones is proprietor of the Cottage Grove saw mill and has been filling an immense tie contract for Southern Pacific company this summer. He will furnish shingles for the Cow Creek bridge." (The Eugene City Guard)
May 7, 1903: "County Bridge Supt. Jennie was in this city Tuesday, and reports that he has completed the repairs on the Cow creek bridge at Riddle." (The Plaindealer)
November 16, 1905: "Road Supervisor Abner Riddle is doing some needed work in re-planking the public bridge over Cow Creek. It has been about twelve years since this was last done and there was some danger from accidents." (The Plaindealer)
