FERGUSON
Long Tom River
May 28, 1925: "The new county bridge across the Long Tom river on the Ferguson road west of Junction City fell into the water Tuesday when the county bridge crew was attempting to raise it two feet to get it out of the way of high water.
The bridge, an 80-foot covered span, was erected a year ago but the high water last winter proved it to be too low and work of raising it was well under way when it slipped off the jacks and fell into the river with a crash.
John Bogart, who is foreman in charge of the work was caught beneath the wreckage by escaped with but slight injuries.
County Commissioner Hurd said that as far as he could ascertain nobody was to blame for the accident. He said the bridge will be rebuilt as soon as possible. Most of the material can be salvaged.
The old bridge, which is still standing, and is in pretty good shape will be used until the new one is rebuilt." (Morning Register)
