May 23, 1939: "The removal of the steel bridge over Rogue River at Gold Hill, to replace the covered bridge over the mouth of Little Butte creek, on the Elks' picnic ground road between Agate and Dodge bridge, County Engineer Paul B. Rynning announced today." (Medford Mail Tribune)
June 28, 1939: "The work of replacing the covered bridge on the Elks picnic grounds road has been started. The old covered bridge is in course of dismantling and the steel bridge at Gold Hill over Rogue river has been torn down and moved to the picnic ground road site. The work will take about three months." (Medford Mail Tribune)
September 11, 1939: "Main structure of the new bridge over Butte creek near the Elks picnic ground has been completed and work started today on the two approaches, County Engineer Paul B. Rynning reports. The bridge will be opened for traffic within the next week or ten days, it is expected.
The bridge proper which formerly spanned Rogue river at Gold Hill, replaces an old covered bridge." (Medford Mail Tribune)
