McKenzie River
May 25, 1907: "The County Commissioners' court met in special session this forenoon at 10 o'clock for the purpose of opening the bids for the construction of the wagon bridge across the McKenzie river at Hendricks' Ferry, on the road between Eugene and the upper McKenzie summer resorts and the Blue River mines. The contract was let to W.W. Inman, of Eugene, as he was the only bidder this time, it will be remembered that at the previous opening of the bids there were three bidders, Mr. Inman being the lowest, but on account of an omission, making his bid unreasonably low, and upon affidavit that a mistake was made, the court readvertised for bids with the result that Mr. Inman had a clear field this time. His bid was $13,100.
The work of construction will begin as soon as possible and the bridge will be completed by fall.
The bridge will be of the Howe truss design, will be of wood and covered. The superstructure will be 420 feet long and will have three wooden piers. It will be 22 feet above low water mark and the roadway will be 16 feet wide in the clear. The bridge will be built so as to sustain a moving load of 800 pounds per lineal foot besides its own weight.
L.N. Roney, of this city, who has built many bridges in the county during the last fifteen years, designed the structure and furnished the plans and specifications." (The Eugene Guard)

October 22, 1907: "There will be no more ferrying across the McKenzie at the old Hendrick's ferry. W.W. Inman has the new bridge almost completed. It is all swung and sided up and half shingled. A few more days and it will be ready to turn over to the county. Teams have been engaged to haul rock to fill up the piers and the work will all be done before high water comes." (Morning Register)
November 11, 1920: "J. W. McArthur, county bridge superintendent, has announced that work will commence at once on the repairing of Hendricks bridge over the McKenzie river." (The Springfield News)
July 11, 1921: "A county bridge crew of seven men left this morning for Hendricks bridge on the McKenzie river where they will begin work of replacing the pillars under the bridge. These pillars have been there for the last 14 years and it is believed dangerous to let them stay longer, says J.W. McArthur, county bridge superintendent, who says pillars should be replaced every 12 years in this country. It will take about a month to complete the work as false work has to be put under the bridge wherever one of the pillars is taken out. Traffic will not be interfered with, however." (The Eugene Guard)
