September 3, 1903: "The county court is again asking for bids for the bridge to be built across the Tualatin, near the Rood farm, southeast of the city. Bids will be received on September 12, at 10 a.m." (The Hillsboro Argus)
November 13, 1903: "Warrants to J.B. Tillotson, contractor for Rood bridge, ordered issued on county judge's acceptance of same." (Hillsboro Independent)
October 13, 1905: "In the matter of repairing bridge at Rood's place; it is ordered that advertisement for bids be inserted in the Independent and Argus for repairs and extension of said bridge." (Hillsboro Independent)
October 19, 1905: "Notice is hereby given that sealed proposals for furnishing material and building extensions to both ends of the span on the Rood Bridge, one mile southeast of Newton, will be received by the County Board up to 2:00 p.m., on Thursday, November 2, 1905. The successful bidder must be prepared to execute a bond for the faithful performance of his contract, Plans and specifications furnished. L.A. Rood, Judge. By order of County Court. November 2, 1905: "D.B. Reasoner Tuesday sent his crew and tools for the repairs on the Rood bridge, below Newton." (The Hillsboro Argus)
November 9, 1905: "D.B. Reasoner now has a crew of seven men at work on the Rood bridge, southeast of Newton, across the Tualatin, and he expects to finish in about four or five days." (The Hillsboro Argus)
November 17, 1905: "The Rood bridge has been closed to the public since last Tuesday and will remain closed until the middle of next week. There are two fills to be made, one on each end of the bridge. Road Supervisor Kelsay has eight men and four teams at work and will push it along as rapidly as possible." (Hillsboro Independent)
December 7, 1905: "Accepted the Rood bridge upon report of Judge Rood and commissioner Buchanan, and paid D.B. Reasoner, contractor $1144.75 for same." (The Hillsboro Argus)
January 21, 1909: "It is reported this morning that the apron or south approach to the Rood bridge is afloat, and that traffic is unsafe." (The Hillsboro Argus)
