June 19, 1956: "The U.S. Forest Service is calling for bids for construction of the Staples Bridge and approaches about 21 miles southeast of Cottage Grove in the Umpqua National Forest.
Bids will be received until 11 a.m. June 29 by the regional supply office in Portland. Plans call for a 120-foot reinforced concrete bridge and about three-quarters of a mile of approaches. The bridge will cross Sharps Creek.
Specifications can be obtained from the regional supply officer in Portland or from the forest supervisor at Roseburg." (The News-Review)
