September 26, 1902: "The burning of the Shipley bridge across the Tualatin, causes no little inconvenience to farmers here. They have to go by way of Oregon City or Tualatin to get to Portland. When a new bridge is built, it should be covered from bank to bank as those long suspension approaches are expensive to rebuilt, and in only a few years are dangerous. Piling may be cheap and easily driven, but a bridge costing from $4000 to $6000 put up on pegs is not safe. Good cylinders filled with concrete or like substance is the proper thing in that place." (Oregon City Courier=Herald)

Plans and specifications may be seen at the office of the county surveyor of Clackamas county. A certified check in a sum equal to five per cent of the amount bid must accompany each bid.
Lowest bid not necessarily accepted. John W. Meldrum, County Surveyor." (Oregon City Courier=Herald)
