November 19, 1908: "The Ritner bridge is very much in need of repairs." (Polk County Itemizer)
July 30, 1927: "The Polk county court spent Friday visiting the roads in the Peedee district. Judge Hawkins reports that construction on the Ritner bridge is going along rapidly and the bridge will be ready for traffic by September 1. This bridge is being built across Ritner creek on the Dalles-Kings valley route to Newport. It is a covered bridge with openings, a wooden truss built on solid concrete piers. The decking has been completed and as soon as the gravel fills at each approach are completed, the bridge will be opened to traffic." (Daily Capital Journal)
November 22, 1950: "A rural mailman and a truck driver escaped injury in an auto-truck collision today on the approach of the Ritner bridge two miles west of here.
The wreck involved a car driven by Harry Kester, mail carrier on Monmouth route 2, and an unidentified driver of a heavy truck and trailer owned by Wayne Housauer of Independence.
The truck landed in a creek and Kester's was knocked off the road into a ditch. Both vehicles were damaged extensively." (Statesman Journal)
January 8, 1951: "Another car and truck accident occurred at Ritner Bridge. Mrs. Archie Winslow of Kings Valley and a log truck collided. Mrs. Winslow's car was damaged but no one was hurt." (Corvallis Gazette-Times)
March 3, 1954: "Joe Kinsey of McChord air base visited last Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Howard Perry. When he left to return to the base he tipped his car over at the Ritner bridge and damaged it quite badly. No one was hurt." (Corvallis Gazette-Times)
