GEARY STREET
Albany - Santiam Canal
____ - 1958
September 12, 1957: "Another of Linn county's vanishing covered bridges will soon be gone as workers construct a new steel-and-concrete span across the Albany-Santiam canal on Seven Mile lane south of Albany.
The new bridge, part of a project to eliminate two hazardous right-angle turns, is being directed by the Pacific Power & Light Co., which operates the canal. The Leonard Wald Company of Albany is in charge of building the bridge.
The covered bridge, located near the south end of Geary street, will be torn down after the new bridge is finished nearby.
Work will start next week on the project. A Linn county construction crew is already grading a new road that will connect with the new bridge.
County Engineer Walter Larsen said today that the present bridge will remain in commission until the new bridge and roadway become useable." (Albany Democrat-Herald)
