CALAPOOIA RIVER
Calapooia River
1923 - 1937
October 1, 1923: "The highway bridge over the Calapooia, between Tangent and Shedd, is carrying its own weight today, the weight of the bridge having been lifted from the falsework yesterday, according to S.R. Hays, who is in charge of the construction.
Workmen finished putting the framework of the bridge together Sunday, the Sunday work having been done because the rainy season is getting close and because the county court is anxious to give traffic the use of the new cut-off which is now completely paved.
Just as soon as the floor is laid, the sides and roof completed, the bridge will be ready for use, Mr. Hays said today. He thinks about three weeks will be required to finish the work.
The span is 120 feet in length and the approach 152 feet long at the north end and a 38-foot approach at the south end, making the entire bridge 310 feet in length. Paving will be laid on the bridge the distance of 310 feet. The cover will shelter the span of 120 feet." (Albany Evening Herald)

December 1, 1936: "The covered bridge on the Pacific highway, spanning the Calapooya river two miles north of Shedd and the only covered bridge on the highway between Eugene and Portland, has been bought by the Lane county court and it will be placed over Fall creek on the Pengra road.
The bridge will be torn down and the material hauled to the site on Fall creek. The highway commission is building a new modern bridge to replace it." (The Eugene Guard)
