July 29, 1891: "Notice is hereby given to whom it may concern, that sealed bids will be received at the office of the county clerk of Linn county, Oregon, up to 12 o'clock noon, Wednesday, August 5th, 1891, for construction of a county bridge across Thomas creek, at or near A.R. McDonald's farm, two and one-half miles above Scio, in said county and state, said bridge to be of the following pattern and dimensions: Main span to be Howe Truss, covered 125 feet in length, 16 feet wide in the clear, 18 feet above low water mark, north approach 50 feet in length and south approach 30 feet in length, both approaches to be protected by bannisters, each end of the truss to rest upon eight solid oak piles. No bids will be considered unless accompanied with plans and specification, and 5 per cent of bid in cash or certified check.

August 25, 1922: "Work on the Shimanek bridge, which was washed out last November by the big flood, has been started. The timbers and other material are now on the ground and work will be rushed so that it will be finished before the fall rains start in. An Albany contractor has the job and it is reported that he is at present in an Albany hospital." (Albany Evening Herald)
October 12, 1962: The bridge was damaged in the high winds of the Columbus Day storm. Trees that had been blown onto the bridge caused such damage that the use of the bridge was restricted weight limit until the time came for removal of the structure.
