November 19, 1950: "A hearing on proposed vacation of part of the Evans creek road near Wimer and abandonment of a covered bridge will be conducted in the county court room at the courthouse at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, November 22.
A new section of road and a new bridge have been constructed in the area. According to the hearing notice, county officials consider the old stretch of road useless as a part of the county system and unnecessary for the future road system. They said that the old covered Bridge 319 is unsafe and burdensome to maintain.
Residents in the area report that abandonment of the bridge has hampered business at the Wimer community, inconvenienced the community church and forced school buses to back track over part of their route'
The petitioners claim there is nothing the matter with their old covered bridge and that it is adequate to handle existing traffic." (Medford Mail Tribune)

March 21, 1961: "A 90-signature petition for the preservation of the Wimer covered bridge has been filed with the Jackson county court.
The old covered bridge, one of the first built in the county, was closed to motor traffic several years ago. It has been considered unsafe by county officials and a hearing was held regarding its future March 14 in Wimer.
The county court had proposed the construction of a foot bridge nearby, but following the hearing the court and county engineer agreed to see if the old bridge could be made safe for pedestrian traffic." (Medford Mail Tribune)
September 5, 1962: "Reconstruction of the old Wimer covered bridge, long a Jackson county landmark, is under way, according to County Engineer Robert J. Carstensen.
Carstensen said the old bridge across Evans creek at Wimer will be open to light traffic possibly by the end of October. It will have an eight-ton load limit which will allow automobiles to use it, but not school buses or logging trucks and trailers.
Approximately a year ago, the county announced it planned to remove the bridge as a public hazard. However, following a large protest meeting at the Wimer Grange hall the county court agreed to rebuild the bridge for light traffic.
Thew county engineer said Tuesday morning the reconstruction work is difficult and expensive. Cost of materials alone is estimated about $5,000, he said. Most of the joists, sills and main members plus the roof have to be replaced, Carstensen said." (Medford Mail Tribune)
