March 2, 1917: “The Stafford bridge over the Mohawk river near Donna collapsed under the weight of snow Wednesday, according to word received in Eugene. The structure, which is one of the oldest bridges in the county, was to have been replaced by a new bridge next summer.” (Myrtle Creek Mail)
May 14, 1917: "The Lane county court has advertised for bids on five bridges to be erected in Lane county during the coming summer. All the structures with one exception will be of wood. Bids will be opened May 31.
One of the bridges is the Stafford bridge across the Mohawk river to replace the one that was badly damaged by the snow early this spring. It will have a span of 85 feet with 165 feet of approaches." (The Springfield News)
June 18, 1917: "Mr. L.N. Roney is at work on the Stafford bridge on the Mohawk." (The Springfield News)
June 29, 1917: "County Commissioner M.H. Harlow made a trip up the Mohawk river yesterday to look after roads. He reports them pretty rough and that a great deal of work will be necessary to place them in good condition. He says that work on the Stafford bridge is progressing." (Morning Register)
November 4, 1925: "A few nights ago an automobile crashed through the railing of the Stafford bridge on the Mohawk highway and was abandoned by the driver. Sheriff Taylor has made an investigation as to the owner and finds it is registered under the name of S.R. Peeples of Bend. It is thought the car may have been stolen." (Morning Register)
November 14, 1926: "The work of driving piling from the revetment on the banks of the Mohawk river to protect the Stafford bridge will be finished this week and the pile driver and crew were transferred to the Row river." (Morning Register)
