ELKHORN VALLEY ?
Little North Fork Santiam River
September 19, 1899: "Hinkle & Smith have just completed two new county bridges in the Elkhorn country. One is a covered bridge with 104 foot span and 60 foot approach across the little north fork of the Santiam, 4 miles north of Gates. The work has been delayed by almost constant rains and has taken nine weeks, while it was expected to be finished in four at the outside." (The Daily Journal)
