McArthur, county bridge superintendent, who returned yesterday afternoon from spending several days in the coast district. The water was higher than for 30 tears and came up more rapidly than ever before in history, declares Mr. McArthur.
Two covered bridges on the North Fork river, one at Minerva and the other the Smith bridge, are out. However, they can be largely salvaged as they are nearly all complete, says the superintendent." (The Eugene Guard)

November 5, 1922: "The Meadows bridge over the North Fork of the Siuslaw river is well under way and will be finished for winter travel, said J.A. McArthur, county bridge superintendent, upon his return yesterday from a trip to the western end of the county.
Curtis Gardiner, the contractor, is making better headway now than he was a short time ago, said the superintendent. It was feared that he would not be able to complete the job before the water became too high. The delay was occasioned by inability to obtain material.
The bridge superintendent inspected other bridges in that section and arranged for repairs on some of them." (Morning Register)
